The first and only in Ukraine today, the Department of Cosmetology and Aromology, was established on the basis of the National Academy of Pharmacy of Ukraine (now the National University of Pharmacy) in 1998 from the course of cosmetics technology, which existed at the Department of Factory Technology drugs of the Kharkiv Pharmaceutical Institute since 1993.

From the 1998-1999 academic year to the present, the Department of Cosmetology and Aromology is a graduate of the specialty (now educational program) Technology of perfumes and cosmetics, educational activities for which the National University of Pharmacy has been licensed since 1998.

In addition, in accordance with the requirements of modernity and the constant development of practical cosmetology in Ukraine, there is a need for staffing both new and functioning institutions of practical cosmetology. From the 2019-2020 academic year, recruitment for the new educational program of the second master’s level “Cosmetology” began, according to which the Department of Cosmetology and Aromology is also a graduate.

Today the Department of Cosmetology and Aromology has the necessary material and technical base, educational and methodological and staffing for teaching medical-biological, technological, clinical and cosmetic disciplines, due to the quality of training for practical cosmetology. The department consists of highly qualified teaching staff and teaching and support staff, graduate students and applicants for academic titles.

In the current academic year (2019-2020 academic year) the department has 21 employees, including: 1 head of the department, professor, doctor of pharmaceutical sciences; 1 professor, doctor of pharmaceutical sciences; 7 associate professors (5 – candidates of pharmaceutical sciences, 2 – candidates of medical sciences); 1 senior lecturer (candidate of pharmaceutical sciences), 5 assistants (3 candidates of pharmaceutical sciences, 2 – without academic title, graduate students); 1 teacher with hourly pay (candidate of medical sciences).

100% of the teaching staff has a degree, the average age is 50 years.

At the department there are educational and training centers in the disciplines of cosmetology. The department teaches more than 25 disciplines, as well as internships in a number of disciplines.
